“Hi, I'm Mary Rivera and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) in the state of Texas. I enjoy helping others navigate the stresses of life onto a path to emotional holistic well-being. I have worked with adolescents, women, couples, and families. I have experience dealing with depression, anxiety, divorce, parental issues, behavioral struggles, infidelity issues, substance abuse, trauma sexual/physical abuse, communication skills, coping strategies, and relationship difficulties. In relationships couples often wait until things are extremely broken to seek help, but I believe that proactive counseling, when times are good, can serve to strengthen the foundations of a relationship. That way, when tough times come (because they will), they can make it through, stronger than before. If your relationship is under extreme stress, there is hope, and we will work together to rebuild commitment, rediscover love, and revitalize passion. I have been trained in the Gottman Method and I utilize interventions from Gottman's Sound Relationship House Theory with all my couples. I operate mostly from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy approach. The relationship between counselor and client has a tremendous impact on progress made. Therefore, I listen empathically without judgement to validate your emotions while still appropriately challenging your negative thoughts and behavior patterns to enact real, positive change.
“What the hell did I get out of this counseling session?, I don't even remember what we talked about?” Trust me I’ve been there!…. With my approach it will be very structured and you will know exactly what you get out of therapy because YOU set the agenda to our sessions. Through our structured sessions I will guide you through Life challenges because, A lot of times, we doubt ourselves and others, lose hope, lose confidence/self-esteem and even lose faith during those challenges. Helping others is in my DNA and I will help you. I want you to know that you're not alone, I look forward to joining you on this life journey. If we are not a good fit, please don't give up on getting help, I can always help you find another Therapist.
My husband and I have been together over 25 years, I enjoy reading, binge watching tv, I enjoy eating out and trying new things, traveling, spending quality time with family and friends. I love nothing more than to make memories with my family which includes my 17-year-old son along with my 2 adult children and 3 fur grandbabies..
